How to Style Damaged Hair

Jun 24, 2022

Do you ever feel disappointed with your hair when you look in the mirror? Dealing with damaged hair can be a real challenge. It’s not always easy to style it and make it look good.  When you have damaged hair, you’re probably looking for ways to style it that will minimize the damage and make it look as good as possible.

If your hair has been damaged by styling tools or product overload, don’t worry – there are ways to fix it! Here, we’ll outline some tips for repairing dry, damaged hair and bringing it back to its former glory. So read on to learn more!

Use Products Made Specifically for Damaged Hair

When styling damaged hair, it’s important to use a shampoo and conditioner made for damaged hair. These products help to seal in the moisture and keep your hair looking healthy. Shampoo and conditioner made for damaged hair contain ingredients that will help your hair feel healthier.

Also, you may opt to use a hair mask or deep conditioner once or twice a week.  You can also ask your hairstylist for advice on which products are best for repairing damaged hair.

Avoid Heat Styling as Much as Possible

Most people can relate to having damaged hair with split ends. You may be the victim of years of heat styling or constant chemical processing, or maybe you’ve just shampooed too often. Many ways can be used to style your hair without damaging it with heat, like buns and braids.

Avoid excessive heat styling, and always use a heat protectant. Blow-dry your hair in small sections using low airflow if you must blow-dry your hair.

Get Regular Trims

If you have damaged hair, one tip to help with its appearance is to get regular trims. Regular trims can remove split ends, which can give your hair a dry or fried appearance.  Not only does a haircut help to cut away all the split ends, but it also ensures that there’s no frizz or other damage on the rest of your hair. It will be less costly and time-consuming to maintain your hairstyle when you have fewer split ends.

Apply Deep Conditioning Treatments or Masks Weekly

Many hair products are designed to nourish your hair and make it healthier. However, neglecting the state of your hair has many negative consequences. The treatments you apply to your hair may not be effective if your hair isn’t healthy.

Arrange an appointment with your stylist for a deep conditioning treatment every week. A deep conditioner is most often applied once per week but may also be used more than once, depending on the type of hair you have. Make sure to speak with your stylist about what type of mask or conditioner they recommend for your hair, then ask them how often you should use it to achieve the best results.

Be Gentle with Brushing

It is important to know that when you are brushing your hair, it should be gentle. You should avoid brushing your hair too hard, or it could lead to hair damage. The objective of brushing one’s hair is to remove any tangles and knots. If you are removing tangles and knots, it does not mean you need to go at the hair with intensity.
